Revolut has received conditional approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to form a national bank.

The September 3 approval is a material regulatory milestone, but it is not a final bank launch. Revolut still needs additional approvals from the FDIC and Federal Reserve, plus final OCC authorisation, before the proposed Revolut Bank US can begin full operations.

Why conditional approval matters

A national bank charter would allow Revolut to move beyond relying primarily on partner-bank infrastructure in the United States.

The proposed bank is expected to offer checking, credit cards, installment loans, foreign exchange and multicurrency banking. Revolut is targeting a launch in 2027.

Stablecoin plans

Revolut management has also discussed a future stablecoin for the proposed U.S. bank. That stablecoin is not live today.

The correct status is planned future product / dependent on regulatory and bank-launch progress.

Remaining approvals

Conditional OCC approval is only one step. Revolut still needs FDIC approvals, Federal Reserve approvals and final OCC approval before launch.

Why this matters for crypto

A U.S. national bank could create a more vertically integrated model combining fiat accounts, payments, FX, regulated banking, crypto access and future stablecoin products.

That raises future questions around custody boundaries, stablecoin issuance, deposit insurance, bank-versus-crypto entity separation and regulatory supervision.
